Buddha’s teaching of wisdom

( Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian)The Government of Lanka says that on Wesak day this year, 2600 years after Buddha will be completed. Of course there are those who dispute the calculations of advisers to the government. In any case it must be pproximately true; and after so many years it is worth making an investigation into the fundamental teachings of Buddha. Buddha was probably the first human teacher to reject the idea of God or the Creator. Also, he rejected metaphysics and beliefs in super natural phenomena that existed in the religious practices at that time. In particular he rejected the idea of soul and the transmigration of soul towards an eternal life. In opposition to all that he put forward the idea of Dukkha as the fundamental truth of the universe. What is meant by Dukkha? Generally we hear, that Dukkha means suffering of the human subject. In that sense it is a universal truth confined to the human existence. However, what Buddha preached was a universal truth about the whole universe, or the total reality.

What is the objective meaning of dukkha? In the most general sense, dukkha means severe emptiness or negative nothingness. Does that mean continuous negation is the fundamental reality? Buddha often referred to a universal formula to depict the basic character of the reality: anitta- dukkha- anatma, meaning change-negation- lack of soul or substance. However Buddha was eager to explain the idea of dukkha referring to twelve varieties of happenings or movements. Rise and collapse, growth and decay, damage and recovery, unity of the opposite and separation of the equals, pressure and release, disturb and settle. In some places Buddha removed the last two sets and included these within damage and recovery.

In that case there were only eight movements included within dukkha. Inspite of such variations dukkha means all such possible severe happenings common to any thing and every thing within the universe. Impermanence, negation in nothingness- dukkha- is at the bottom of every thing. Physical world is a product of this self movement. Buddha said the four physical states, maha bhootha meaning general physical states, patavi or solidness, aapo or liquidness, vayo or gases, and thejo or fire are products of dukkha. In turn all physical things arise from four maha bootha.

(May 15, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Buddhism teaches the cleansing of one’s mind of its defilements arising from craving, anger and ignorance in order to see and comprehend things in their authentic form.

The cleansing is done with systematic forms of meditation whereby engaging awareness as a vital force a strong foundation of concentration is built to progress into knowledge, wisdom and insight. With the cleansing of the mind, the kammic energy that flows for one runs its course to a finish. With the cessation of kammic energy, rebirth comes to an end. Rebirth it is that brings disease, decay, death and the whole of man’s travail. Thus, cleansing one’s mind one fulfils the purpose of one’s earthly existence.

In Buddhism there is no difference between mind and consciousness. Consciousness meeting with sense faculties triggers off thoughts which lead to mental and bodily activities giving rise to feelings, sensations, perceptions and mental formations. Consciousness being foremost in the life of man getting to know it becomes essential. Here are some theories of notable scientists and philosophers on the subject.

ताइवानमा बुद्ध जयन्ति संपन्न

ताइपेई ताइवानबाट डा. हरिकुमार श्रेष्ठ मे २२ २०११ । मे १५ २०११ का दिन कपिलबस्तु दिवस अभियान रास्ट्रिय कार्य समिति र ताइवानबासी नेपालीहरुको आयोजनामा ताइपपेई सिटी ङिङ्गमापा ओग्यन धर्म केन्द्र सिङ्गलोङ्ग ताइपेईमा गै बुद्ध धर्म परम्पराअनुसार २५५५ औं बुद्ध जयन्ति मनाए । कार्यक्रममा बौद्धधर्मावलम्वी र शुभेच्छुकहरुको उपस्थिती थियो । नेपाली ताइवानी र इण्डोनेशियनहरु सहभागी उक्त कार्यक्रममा लामा गुरु भेन खेम्पो ङवाङ् राब्गा रिम्पोचेबाट तिब्बेतीयन भाषामा धर्मग्रन्थ वाचन गरी नेपाली र चिनीया भाषामा पनि उल्था गर्नु भएको थियो ।

उक्त कार्यक्रममा विशेषरुपमा श्री सोनाम शेर्पा श्री कसा्रंग लामा श्री िमंगमा शेर्पा फूर्वा शेर्पा लगायत अन्य साथीहरुको योगदान पनि विशेष रह्यो भने कार्यक्रममा लागेको खर्चमध्ये श्री सोनाम शेर्पा र श्री कसा्रंग लामाबाट क्रमशः प्रसादको लागि लाग्ने खर्च ताइवान डलर ३०००.०० र छेमी बत्तिको लागि लाग्ने

लुम्बिनीमा लट्ठिएका जापानी

भैरहवा, जेष्ठ ८ – जापानी नागरिक नोबुओ कासाई हरेक बुद्धजयन्तीमा लुम्बिनी आएकै हुन्छन् । नियमित आउने तीर्थालु अरू पनि धेरै होलान् । तर उनको आगमन अरूकोभन्दा निकै फरक छ ।उनी बुद्धजयन्ती समारोहमा सरिक हुन वा लुम्बिनीको दर्शन गर्न मात्र आउने होइनन् । पाँच वर्षदेखि उनले बुद्धजयन्तीका दिन लुम्बिनी आउने हजारौं सर्वसाधारण दर्शनार्थीलाई लाखौं रुपैयाँ खर्चेर निःशुल्क भोजन गराउँछन् । ‘म रहेसम्म हरेक बुद्धजयन्तीमा लुम्बिनी आएर सर्वसाधारणलाई खाना खुवाइरहने छु,’ जापानको टोकियो निवासी ६५ वषर्ीय कासाईले भने ।

जापानमा गएको भूकम्प र सुनामीका बेला महिनौंसम्म उद्धार र घाइतेको सेवामा समर्पित कासाईले यस वर्ष लुम्बिनीमा आएर मृतकको चीरशान्तिको कामना र घाइतेको शीघ्र स्वास्थ्यको प्रार्थना गरे ।

त्यति मात्र कहाँ हो र ? जापान बुद्धिस्ट फेडरेसनका केन्द्रीय सदस्य कासाईले ३७ करोड रुपैयाँ खर्चेर लुम्बिनीमा तीनतारे स्तरको ‘होटल कासाई’ सञ्चालनमा ल्याएका छन् । यो व्यापारका लागि होइन । यसले कमाएको मुनाफा स्थानीयवासीको खुसी र लुम्बिनीको विकासमा समर्पण गर्ने उनले घोषणा गरेका छन् ।

बीस वर्षअघि लुम्बिनी आउँदा बस्ने होटल नपाएपछि रिक्साबाट फर्केर भैरहवा पुग्नुपरेको थियो उनले । ‘त्यही भएर लुम्बिनीमा होटलको सबैभन्दा ठूलो आवश्यकता महसुस गरी सञ्चालन गरेको हुँ,’ उनले भने । यहाँ होटल निर्माण गर्ने संकल्प पूरा गर्न कासाईले जापानमा व्यक्तिगत सम्पत्तिसमेत बेचेका थिए । ‘यो होटल लुम्बिनीका निम्ति मेरो उपहार हो,’ कासाईले भने ।

Buddha Jayanti: A Quest for Peace

Buddhism, which like western science had its own theory of causation, was born on Nepali soil from where it was exported to entire civilisations.

We remember the heritage of Lord Buddha’s insight and faith. For more than 25 centuries, this has been the guiding spirit for millions of human beings. A holy land is nobody’s possession. Anybody can worship and the more people worship it, the more humanitarian it becomes. The story of the birth of Lord Buddha in the Lumbini Garden is an exceptionally beautiful one. Equally remarkable and memorable are his teachings. His teachings and never ending search for truth and the meaning of life and death has made him a source of immense spiritual inspiration and strength. According to “The Teaching of Buddha”, he taught himself to avoid the sin of killing any living creature, because he wished all people to know the blessedness of a long life. What a revolutionary message in a world where money rather than magnamity rules the day and where it is considered better to have something than to be something.

Buddha’s philosophy is an open philosophy or religion drawing the attention of people towards human sufferings, causes of sufferings and ways of getting through this impasse ultimately leading to salvation, the goal of all religions and philosophies. The ultimate aim of life should be the quest for freeing ourselves from the state of decay and inhalation for the good of mankind. Buddha has given us a message which is of permanent value, which is an eternal message, which is of timeless character but we are unworthy descendents of that Great Master.

According to “Teaching of Buddha”, he trained himself to remain free from all deception and double talk, because he wished all people to know the tranquillity of mind that would follow from speaking the truth.

The message of Lord Buddha has lost nothing of its strength and appeal through the ages. His deep respect for life and his concern for love and compassion have much in common with the values on which the whole world philosophy on peace is based.

Mankind owes a great deal to teachings of Lord Buddha, which have exerted a great influence throughout the ages. One of his famous statements is, ” Go forth for the benefit of the many, for the happiness of many, through compassion for the world. With this message spread around , the world will be a better place to live.” That was Lord Buddha’s first advice to his followers-advice that we consider as pertinent now as it was then. Indeed, in a very real sense, it symbolises the ideals upon which the United Nations and its global work are based.

To understand the essence of any religion we need to foster in ourselves a reverence for all the sources of spiritual belief. As a place of reflection, spiritual renewal and cultural exchange, and as a symbol of peace, Lumbini can attract not only Buddhist but also people of other persuasions, who owe allegiance to the great and universal values of kindness, compassion and human fellowship which are symbolised by Lumbini and the ideals of Lord Buddha, to which it is dedicated.

राष्ट्रसंघ महासचिव मुनसंगै बुद्व जयन्ती मनाइयो

न्युयोर्क, जेष्ठ ५ – २५५५ औं बुद्व जयन्ती सयुक्त राष्ट्र संघको महासभा कक्षमा मनाइएको छ । सन २००० देखि हरेक बर्ष बुद्व जयन्तीको अवसरमा राष्ट्र संघको महासभा कक्षमा कार्यक्रम आयोजना हुँदै आएको छ । यसपटकको कार्यक्रम, राष्ट्र संघका लागि श्रीलंकाली स्थायी नियोगले गरेको थियो । कार्यक्रममा राष्ट्र संघको महासचिव वान की मुन प्रमुख अथिती थिए । विभिन्न देशबाट आएका सयौं बौद्व भिक्षु एवं भिक्षुणीहरुले सामूहिक बुद्व प्राथना र बन्दना संगैं कार्यक्रम संचालन गरिएको थियो ।

बुद्व जयन्तीलाई सम्बोधन गर्दै महासचिव मुनले तीन बर्ष नेपाल भ्रमणको क्रममा आफू बुद्व को जन्मस्थल लुम्बिनी पुगेको स्मरण गर्दै भने ‘शान्ति र मानवअधिकारको सम्बन्धमा राष्ट्र संघ र बुद्वको सिद्वान्त समानता छ ।’

कार्यक्रमलाई नेपाली स्थायी प्रतिनिधि ज्ञानचन्द्र आचार्यले बुद्वको जन्मस्थल लुम्बिनीको संरक्षण र प्रर्वद्वनका लागि नेपाल सरकारको तत्परता उल्लेख गरेका थिए । भारतीय राजदुत हरिदिप सिंह पुरीले बुद्वको जन्मस्थलबारे केहि नबोलेपनि बुद्वले भारतमा ज्ञान प्राप्त गरेको एवम बुद्व दर्शन सम्बन्धी तिर्थ स्थलहरु भारतमा रहेकोले उपस्थित सबैलाई भारत भ्रमणको निम्तो दिएका थिए । कार्यक्रममा आयोजक राष्ट्र संघका लागि श्रीलंकाली स्थायी नियोगका राजदुत डा पालिथा टि भी खोनाले पनि बोलेका थिए ।

विदेशमा बस्नेले बुद्धका लागि यति काम किन नगर्ने ?

बुद्धको नाममा हरेक वर्षमा एकपटक शान्ति र अहिंसाको कुरा हुन्छ । बुद्धको विचार र योगदानको चर्चा हुन्छ । औपचारिक तामझाम र चहलपहलमै बुद्धजयन्तीको कर्म समाप्त हुन्छ । यसवर्ष पनि यस्तै कर्मकाण्डी काम सहित बुद्धजयन्ती मनाईयो । तर दुःखको कुरा जुन गौतम बुद्ध हाम्रो देशमा जन्मिएको भनेर गर्व गरिरहेका छौं त्यसको स्वामित्व भने चलाखीपूर्ण ढंगले हाम्रै छिमेकी भारतले लिन खोज्दैछ ।

भारत र गौतम बुद्धबिचको साइनो भनेको उनले भारतको गयामा तपस्या गरेर बुद्धत्व पाएका हुन् । तर यी ठूल्दाई यतिखेर साम, दाम, दण्ड, भेद लगाएर बुद्ध भारतमै जन्मिएका हुन भनेर भ्रम छर्ने अभियानमा छ । मिडियामा भँगेरे टाउके अक्षरमा बुद्ध भारतमा जन्मिएका हुन भनेर आइरहेको, थुप्रै देशका पाठ्यपुस्तकमा बुद्ध भारतमा जन्मिएको भनेर उल्लेख भएको छ । त्यतिमा त्र हैन, नेपालको कपिलबस्तुमा रहेको लुम्बिनीजस्तै हुबहु संयन्त्र बनाइरहेको भारतले । त्यसैले बुद्ध जयन्ती मनाइरहँदा बुद्ध भारतमा हैन नेपालमा जन्मिएका हुन भनेर स्थापित गर्ने संकल्पमा लाग्नु नेपालीहरुको पहिलो कर्तब्य भएको छ ।

गौतम बुद्ध नेपाली माटोमा जन्मेका यहाँका ऐतिहासिक विभूति हुन् भन्ने कुरा घाम जस्तै छर्लङ्ग भएपनि छिमेकी भारतले यसलाई भ्रममा पार्ने कुचेष्टा गरिरहेको छ । संसारका धेरै मान्छेले मान्ने गौतम बुद्धलाई उसले आफ्नो बनाउने दुस्साहस गरेको छ । यसलाई चिर्न स्वदेशमा रहेकाको भन्दा बिदेशमा बस्ने नेपालीको भूमिका महत्वपूर्ण हुन्छ । संसारका हरेक कुनामा बस्ने नेपालीले बुद्ध भारतमा होईन, नेपालमा जन्मेका हुन् भन्ने कटु यथार्थलाई स्थापित गर्न सक्छन् । यसको लागि केही गर्नै पर्दैन आआफ्ना ठाउँबाट यसबारे सानो प्रचारप्रसार नै पर्याप्त हुन्छ । बेलायतमा बस्ने रामकुमार श्रेष्ठको अगुवाईमा यस्तो अभियान शुरु भैसकेको छ जसमा बिश्वभरका हजारौं अभियन्ता जोडिएका छन् । उहाँ लगायतको समूहले सामाजिक सञ्जाल फेसबुकलाई उपयोग गरी १ डिसेम्बर २००९ लाई कपिलवस्तु दिवसको रुपमा मनाउन थालेको छ । बुद्धका महत्वपूर्ण सन्देश र बिधिहरुलाई बिभिन्न माध्यम मार्फत प्रचारप्रसार गर्नु अभियानको मुख्य उदेश्य हो । अभियानले बुद्धको जन्मस्थलबारेको भ्रम चिर्दै बुद्ध नेपालमै जन्मेका हुन् भन्नेे कटु यथार्थलाई बिश्वसामु चिनाउने प्रयत्न गरिरहेको छ । उसले बुद्धको जन्मस्थल लुम्बिनी र कपिलवस्तुलाई पर्यटकीय स्थलको रुपमा मलजल गर्ने प्रयास पनि थालेको छ ।

17^th May, 2011, Surrey, UK: 2555^th Buddha Jayanti was celebrated in the presence of Lamas from different countries and representatives from different organizations. The program was started with traditional Puja by Lamas. Major speakers in the program were BCCUK Advisor Dr. Sunil M. Kariyakarawana, Venerable Hungtrampa Lopon Tsewang Rigzin Samdrup ( Lama Acharya Chewang Ghale), Narayan Prasad Rijal, Prof. Narayan Gurung, 720^th Mukhiya of Surrey, Deputy Mayor of Surrey, Representative of Nepal Embassy to UK, NRN UK President and many others. All the speakers highlighted the importance of Buddha, Buddhism, Buddha’s birthplace Lumbini Nepal in different ways.

 

दुई जापानीलाई बुद्ध शान्ति पुरस्कार प्रदान

३ जेठ, रुपन्देही । नेपाल सरकारले पहिलोपटक गौतम बुद्ध अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय शन्ति पुरस्कार प्रदान गरेको छ । द्धितीय बिश्वयुद्धमा आणविक विष्फोटको चपेटामा परेका जापानका नागासाकी र हिरोसिमाका पूर्व मेयरद्धयलाई यो पुरस्कार प्रदान गरिएको हो ।

बुद्धजयन्तीका अवसरमा बुद्धको जन्मस्थल लुम्बिनीमा मङ्गलबार भएको समारोहमा राष्ट्रपति डा. रामवरण यादवले विश्वशान्तिका लागि योगदान गरेबापत डा. तादातोसी अकिवा र तोमिहिसा ताउलाई सम्मान गरेका हुन् ।

पुरस्कारको राशि ५० हजार अमेरिकी डलर रहेको छ । पुरस्कारको रकमसँगै उनीहरुलाई स्वर्णपदक र प्रमाणपत्र प्रदान गरियो । समारोहमा सहभागीता जनाउन दुबैजना सोमबार नै काठमाडौँ आइपुगेका थिए ।

लुम्बिनी विकाश कोषको आयोजनामा भएको कार्यक्रममा राष्ट्रपति डा. रामवरण यादवले आजको विश्व परिस्थितिमा भगवान गौतमबुद्धले प्रतिपादन गर्नुभएको सत्य-ज्ञानको महत्व शान्ति, अहिंसा, मानवीय दुखःकष्टहरुलाई न्यूनीकरण गर्ने मानव एक्यबद्धतालाई प्रवर्द्धन गर्नु अझ बढी र सान्दर्भिक भएको बताउनुभयो ।

उहाँले शान्ति प्रवर्द्धन तथा हातहतियार निशस्त्रीकरणको क्षेत्रमा मानवीय दुःखकष्टको न्यूनीकरण बौद्ध दर्शनको रचनात्मक तथा व्यावहारिक कार्यान्वयनबाट द्वन्द्व र तनावलाई शान्तिपूर्णरुपमा समाधान गर्ने दिशामा योगदान पुर्‍याउने पुरस्कृत व्यक्तित्वहरुलाई धन्यवाद दिनुहुँदै बुद्ध नेपालमा जन्मे तापनि विश्वको नागरिक हुनुभएको विचार व्यक्त गर्नुभयो ।

Five Principles of Panchsheel

After attaining the enlightenment, Gautam Buddha went to the holy city of Benares and shared his new understanding with other fellows who became his disciples immediately. This was considered as the beginning of the Buddhist community. Till his death, Buddha with his band of disciples spread the gospel of the Dhamma among all the classes comprised of beggars, kings and slave girls.

Source of Buddha’s Teachings 
The Buddha’s teachings have been reconstructed from stories, found mainly in the Sutta Pitaka. Although some stories describe his miraculous powers, others suggest that the Buddha tried to convince people through reason and persuasion rather than through displays of supernatural power. According to Buddhist philosophy, the world is transient (anicca) and constantly changing; it is also soulless (anatta) as there is nothing permanent or eternal in it. Within this transient world, sorrow (dukkha) is intrinsic to human existence. It is by following the path of moderation between severe penance and self-indulgence that human beings can rise above these worldly troubles. In the earliest forms of Buddhism, whether or not god existed was irrelevant.

Buddhist Teaching of Re-Birth 
The Buddha regarded the social world as the creation of humans rather than of divine origin. Therefore, he advised kings and gahapatis to be humane and ethical. Individual effort was expected to transform social relations. The Buddha emphasized individual agency and righteous action as the means to escape from the cycle of rebirth and attain self-realization and nibbana, literally the extinguishing of the ego and desire – and thus end the cycle of suffering for those who renounced the world. According to Buddhist tradition, his last words to his followers were: “Be lamps unto yourselves as all of you must work out your own liberation.”

विश्व शान्तिका अग्रदुत एवं बुद्ध धर्मका प्रवर्तक भगवान बुद्धको २५५५ औं जन्मजयन्ती यही वैशाख पूर्णिमाका दिन विश्वभर मनाईदैंछ । शान्ति, अहिंसा, मैत्री र करुणाले नै मानिसलाई सत्मार्गमा प्रेरित गर्छ एवं आध्यात्मिक र भौतिक चिन्तनको सही अभ्यासबाट मात्र मानिसले दुःखबाट मुक्ति प्राप्त गर्दछ भन्ने सन्देश साथ समग्र मानव जीवनलाई शान्ति र सुखतर्फ प्रेरित गर्ने उनका शाश्वत चिन्तन मानव समाजका निम्ति सदैव प्रेरित रहनेछ ।

रोग, भोक, कलह, हिंसाबाट आक्रान्त समग्र विश्व जगत भौतिक विकासको शिखरमा पुग्दा समेत मानिसका दुःख र समस्या ज्यूँका त्यूँ रहँदा आज उनका प्रेरणारुपी दर्शन झनै घनीभूत रुपमा महत्वपूर्ण हुँदैं आएको छ । आफूलाई नबुझी संसार बुभ्mन सकिदैंन । सहअस्तित्व बिना शान्तिको कल्पना गर्न सकिदैंन । ईश्वर आफूभित्र नै हुन्छ भनि संसारलाई भौतिक लालसाको उच्च मनोकांक्षालाई सन्तुलित गर्ने र अरुको अस्तित्व स्वीकार्दा मात्र आप्mनो अस्तित्वको रक्षा हुन्छ भनि सद्भावका निम्ति प्रेरित गर्ने उनको विचार–विज्ञान मानवका लागि भौतिक विज्ञानको कालखण्डमा समेत महत्वपूर्ण रहिरहनेछ ।

इशा पूर्व ५६३ मा तत्कालिन ऐतिहासिक गणराज्य कपिलवस्तु (हालको कपिलवस्तु, नेपाल) मा जन्मिएका गौतम बुद्धको आर्दश नेपालका लागि जति प्रेरणादायी छ, त्यति नै उनि जन्मिएको पवित्रस्थललाई आप्mनो आँगनमा समेट्न पाउँदा नेपाल अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय रुपमै गौरवान्वित समेत छ । तर बिडम्बनाको कुरा विश्व शान्तिका स्रोतको आप्mनै पवित्र मन्दिर र जन्मभूमि आपैm भोक, गरिबी, अशिक्षा, हिंसा र सामाजिक विखण्डनले रन्थनिएको छ ।

दूरदर्शिताको अभाव, जनता नै शासक हुन् र राज्यको प्रतिफल सबै जनतामा समान हुनुपर्दछ, जाति, धर्म, भाषा मानिसका सांस्कृतिक विशेषण भएपनि मानवीयताले नै मानिसलाई एकाकार गरी समाजलाई शान्तिपूर्ण रुपमा गतिशिल बनाएको हुन्छ भन्ने भावलाई नबुझी केवल आफु र आप्mनै वर्गीय स्वार्थमा मानव समाजलाई शोषण र दोहन गर्दै नेपालको शासकीय स्वरुप आजसम्म आइपुग्दा नै नेपाली समाजले यो दुरावस्था भोग्नुपरेको विदितै छ । प्रकृतिको अनुपम सौन्दर्य, अपूर्व प्राकृतिक स्रोत र साधनले पूर्ण, विश्वकै निम्ति प्राकृतिक स्वर्गको रुपमा रहेको नेपालमा बहुसंख्यक जनता गरिबीको रेखामुनि रहेको तथ्यांक विश्वले हेर्नु पर्दा अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय जगतले हामीलाई गिज्याइरहेको छ । घरमा भकारी लुकाएर छिमेकीका मानो माग्न हिंड्ने नेपाली प्रवृत्तिले नै हामीलाई यो स्थानमा राखेको छ ।

भगवान बुद्धको जन्मस्थल लुम्बिनी, कपिलवस्तुलाई मात्र भएपनि प्रभावकारी रुपमा अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय जगतमा प्रचार प्रसार गर्ने र विश्वभरका बुद्धिष्टहरुको ध्यानाकर्षित गर्ने हो भने लुम्बिनी एक्लैको आयले समग्र नेपालको विकासमा टेवा पुग्न सक्छ । विश्वभर करिब १ अर्ब देखि डेढ अर्बसम्म बुद्धिष्ट धर्मावलम्बीहरु रहेको अनुमान गरिन्छ । संख्यात्मक रुपमा यो विश्वकै तेस्रो ठुलो धर्मको रुपमा स्थापित भएको छ । यति धेरै संख्यामा रहेका बुद्धिष्टहरुलाई नै बुद्ध जन्मेको स्थल नेपालमा पर्छ भन्ने थाहा छैन । ग्लोबमा समेत नभेटिने सानो देश नेपालको बारेमा नेपालका सरोकारवालाहरुले उचित प्रवद्र्धन गर्न नसक्दा आज लुम्बिनी ओझेल र अपेक्षित विकासमा पछाडि त परेको छ नै यसलाई प्रतिविम्बित गर्ने गरी कृत्रिम रुपमा खडा गरिएका नक्कली स्थलहरुले आज विश्व पर्यटकहरुको ध्यान खिंचिरहेको छ । कुल बुद्धिष्टहरुको करिब १ प्रतिशत मात्र तीर्थयात्रीहरु भित्र्र्याउने हो भने करिब १ करोड पर्यटक संख्या हुन्छ । जुन नेपालको कल्पना भन्दा पनि बाहिरको कुरा हो । पर्यटन वर्ष मनाउँदा समेत करिब ५ लाख पर्यटकका लागि रुनुपर्ने नेपाललाई यो संख्याको अनुमान पनि भारी हुन्छ । गत वर्ष सन् २०१० मा मात्र १ लाख ५० हजार जना इण्डियन सहित विदेशी पर्यटकले मात्र भ्रमण गरेका छन् । के हाम्रो लागि यो लज्जाको विषय होइन र ? तर यथार्थ यही हो । उचित प्रचारप्रसार हुन नसक्दा विश्वका थुप्रै पर्यटकहरुलाई नेपालका बारेमा जानकारी छैन र भएकामा समेत भ्रम छ नेपाल एउटा स्वतन्त्र मुलुक नभई भारतकै एउटा अंग हुनुपर्दछ । जसको फाइदा भारतले उठाइरहेको छ । आजपनि हजारौं पर्यटक भारतीय बाटो हुदैं नेपालको लुम्बिनी घुमेर जान्छन् । तर उनिहरु घुमेको क्षेत्र नेपालको लुम्बिनी हो भन्ने तथ्य अनभिज्ञ राखिन्छ । नेपाल भारतको सिमाना छुट्टिने गरी पर्यटकलका लागि कुनैपनि संकेत त्यहाँ राखिएको छैन । जसको आर्थिक घाटा त छ नै सामरिक घाटा समेत नेपालले व्यहोर्दै आएको छ । हालै मात्र संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघका महासचिव एवं थाइल्याण्डका संस्कृति मन्त्रीले लुम्बिनीबारे जानकारी भर्खर पाएको मिडियामा आएको छ । यो भन्दा ठूलो अक्षमता सरकारका लागि के हुन्छ ? सरकारी पक्षको उदासिनता, भारतीय शासकप्रति नेपाली राजनीतिज्ञहरुको चाकरी प्रथा, स्वतन्त्र अडानको अभाव, अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय षडयन्त्र र विशेषगरी भारतको हेपाहा प्रवृत्तिकै कारण समग्र लुम्बिनीको विकास दु्रत गतिमा नभई कछुवा गतिमा भैरहेको छ । त्यसमा पनि विदेशी केही बौद्ध मुलुकहरुको सदाशय एवं सहानुभूतिबाट मात्र त्यो प्राप्त भएको हो ।

आज २५५५ औं बुद्ध जयन्ति
परम्परागत चल्दै आछ  
दिनहुं बुद्ध र उनका उपदेशहरु 
विश्वभर लोकपि्रय हुंदै आछ 
तर उनको जन्मभूमीबारे 
मौनता र ओझेलमा राखियाछ 
त्यसैले यस सवालमा निकै नै
प्रचार प्रसार गर्नै पर्ने भाछ । 

किनकि  
आज यी विश्व धरोहरको जन्मस्थानबारे 
विश्व जनमा भ्रम छरि धावा बोिलंदै छ 
भारतबाट नक्कली कपिलबस्तु निर्माण गरी 
पर्यटकहरुलाई स्वागत कक्ष खोलिंदै छ  
के यो मानव अधिकारको ठाडै हनन् हैन त  
के यो बुद्धको जन्मस्थान कपिलबस्तु नेपाल र 
बुद्धका उपदेशहरुको खिल्ली उडाइएको हैन त?

के अब त साँच्चै नै 
विश्वभरका बुद्ध धर्मालम्बीहरु र अनुयायीहरु 
एकै स्वरमा बोल्नु पर्ने बेला हैन र  
के सारा नेपालीहरु पनि 
रास्ट्रियताको सवालमा एकजुट हुनु पर्ने बेला हैन र    
कहिले कांही आवाज नगुन्जने पनि हैनन् 
तर सुन्ने र गर्ने धेरै भएनन् 
किनकि हाम्रा केही राष्ट्र्घातिहरु
आफ्नो स्वाभिमान उँचो राख्न तयार थिएनन् ।

भेनकुवरमा २५५५ सौं बुद्ध जयन्ति भव्य रुपमा सम्पन्न

युथ फ्रेण्डली सेन्टर भेनकुवर र कपिलवस्तु दिवस विश्व अभियानको आयोजनामा भेनकुवरमा २५५५ सौं बुद्ध जयन्ति भव्य रुपमा सम्पन्न भएको छ। युथ फ्रेण्डली सेन्टर भेनकुवरकी संस्थापक अध्यक्ष एलिस पौडेलको बिशेष सकृयतामा बुद्धको जीवनि, नेपाल र विश्वमा बुद्धमार्गीहरुको स्थितिमा केन्द्रित रहेर ३० भन्दा बढि दर्शकहरुका माझ आयोजाना गरिएको हाजिरी जवाफ प्रतियोगितामा नेपाली, भारतीय र भुटानी मूलका युबाहरुका छ वटा समूहहरुले भाग लिएका थिए।

अनन्त पौडेल र बिनोद राईले संचालन गरेको उक्त कार्यक्रममा, समय राख्ने काम शिवाङ्गी हमालले र संख्या जोड्ने काम सिता बाल्कोटीले गरेका थिए। PACE Canada College र Progressive Nepali Forum in Americas (PNEFA) को आर्थिक सहयोगमा संचालित कार्यक्रमा प्रथम हुने गंगा सुबेदी र गोकर्ण बानियाको समूह, दोश्रो हुने इन्द्र बानिया र अम्बर मत्राको समूह लगायत संपूर्ण सहभगिहरु, स्वयम सेवकहरु, र जजहरुलाई PNEFA का उत्तर अमेरिका संयोजक अबि शर्मा र NCSBC का अध्यक्ष सरद सेरचनले पुरस्कार तथा प्रमाणपत्रहरु बितरण गर्नु भएको थियो।

संजय रेग्मी, कृष्ण सुबेदी र पद्मराज न्यौपानेले जजको महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाउनु भएको थियो।

Buddhist Teachings

Buddhism is a philosophy of life expounded by Gautama Buddha (“Buddha” means “enlightened one”), who born in Lumbini, Nepal in the 6th Century B.C. The Buddha was not a god and the philosophy of Buddhism does not entail any theistic world-view. The teachings of the Buddha are aimed solely to liberate sentient beings from suffering.

The Basic Teachings of Buddha which are core of Buddhism are-

The Three Universal Truth
The Four Noble Truth
The Noble Eightfold Path

In Buddhism, the law of karma, says “for every event that occurs, there will follow another event whose existence was caused by the first, and this second event will be pleasant or unpleasant according as its cause was skillful or unskillful.” Therefore, the law of Karma teaches that responsibility for unskillful actions is born by the person who commits them.

After his enlightenment, he went to the Deer Park near the holy city of Benares and shared his new understanding with five holy men. They understood immediately and became his disciples. This marked the beginning of the Buddhist community. For the next forty-five years, the Buddha and his disciples went from place to place in India spreading the Dharma, his teachings. Their compassion knew no bounds, they helped everyone along the way, beggars, kings and slave girls. At night, they would sleep where they were; when hungry they would ask for a little food. 

Buddha Purnima

Buddha Jayanti or also known as Buddha Purnima is the most sacred festivals of Buddhist. Buddha Purnima (Buddha Birthday) is celebrated in remembrance Lord Buddha. Lord Buddha is the founder of Buddhism. This day is the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. It falls on the full moon of the fourth lunar month (month of Vaisakh) i.e. April or May. This day commemorates three important events of Buddha’s life

- His birth in 623 BC.
- His enlightment i.e. attainment of supreme wisdom, in 588 BC.
- His attainment of Nirvana i.e. the complete extinction of his self at the age of 80.

This day is a thrice blessed day. Lord Buddha is considered the ninth avatar (incarnation) of Vishnu (Preserver in the Hindu Holy Trinity of Creator-Preserver-Destroyer). Gautam Buddha “lived and died in about the fifth century before the Christian era”. Buddha means “enlightened one” – someone who is completely freefrom all faults and mental obstructions.

Gautam Buddha was not a god and the philosophy of Buddhism does not entail any theistic world-view. The teachings of the Buddha are solely to liberate human beings from the misery and sufferings of life.

According to the Buddhism, sorrow and desire are the main cause of all the evil and suffering of this world. Lord Buddha advocated the Eightfold Path consisting of precepts like right conduct, right motive, right speech, right effort, right resolve, right livelihood, right attention and right meditation to gain mastery over suffering. It is only after following this path one can reach the ultimate aim of Nirvana. Nirvana is the transcendental state of complete liberation. Gautama Buddha lived and taught in northern Inda in the 6th Century B.C.

यही अप्रिल १५ तारीखका दिन २५५५ औं बुद्ध जयन्ती मनाउँदै सिड्नीको क्यानटेबरी सामुदायिक हलमा बसेको सिड्नीका सामुदायिक अगुवाहरुको भेलाले ११ सदस्यीय कपिलवस्तु दिवस रास्ट्रिय समिति, आस्ट्रेलियाको गठन गरेको छ  ।

Kapilvastu Day Movement National Committee Formed in Australia

Sanu Ghimire/ Sujan Neupane, Sydney: In the Consulate General Office of New South Wales (Australia) 2555^th Buddha Jayanti was celebrated today. Kapilvastu Day Movement Global Committee Australia Coordinator Miss Sanu Ghimire had a  presentation on Buddha, Buddhism and Kapilvastu Day Movement.

In the same occasion an eleven member Kapilvastu Day Movement National Committee (Australia) has been formed under Mr. Nima Sherpa’s National Coordinatorship. After Spain, Belgium, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Taiwan, Denmark and Nepal, Australia became the ninth country to form Kapilvastu Day Movement National Committee. HE Deepak Kadka announced the names of the committee members. HE Khadka is also one of the Advisors for Kapilvastu Day Movement Global Committee.   The news will be updated soon.

A brief description of Buddhism as I understand it.

(Talk given to U3A University of Third age students in Swindon on 1-9-2008)

 In Buddhism there are three words used very frequently Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. I would describe them briefly so that you get some basic idea about Buddhism.

 The Buddha – teacher

 So who was Buddha? He was not born Buddha. He was born as a prince Siddartha Gautama in a place called Lumbini in present dayNepalmore than 2500 years ago. As a prince he lived in luxury but was not happy completely. He had a tendency to reflect on various aspects of life. Once he was found meditating deeply under a tree when he was only a little boy when every one else was enjoying one of the festivals. It was said that he had four visions

–       a vision of an old man who was week due to old age,

–       a vision of an ill man crying in pain

–       a vision of a dead person taken to a cremation ground by his relatives and

–       Finally he had a vision of a recluse (an ascetic) who had left home, who did not seem to have any worry in life and who was calm and composed.

These four visions had a great impact in him. He thought:

 “Youth, the prime of life, ends in old age and man’s senses fail him when they are most needed. The hale and hearty lose their vigour and health when disease suddenly creeps in. Finally death comes, unannounced perhaps suddenly and unexpectedly without any invitation and puts an end to this brief span of life. Surely there must be an escape from this unsatisfactoriness, from ageing and death.”

 Frequently he thought of leaving home and live a life of an ascetic.

 So at the age of 29 he left the palace in search for a remedy for life’s universal ill. Initially he learned meditation from renowned teachers of the time but he was not satisfied from what he had learned. He then led a life of austerity with the belief that liberation was possible only by rigorous self mortification. He practised austerity for many years until he almost died. He realised that neither the life of luxury nor the life of austerity led him any where near his goal.

सुरेश कुमार थापा, बिष्णु महतो, र शेखर हुनुहुन्छ । समयाभाबका कारण उक्त भेलामा उपस्थित हुन चाहनेहरु समेत उपस्थित हुन नसकेको कारण उल्लेख्य सहभागिता हुन नसकेकोले पछि अलि ब्रिहत
रुपमा भेला गराइ यस्लाई बिस्तार गरी आधिकारिकता दिने निर्णय गरियो ।
