Welcome to Lumbini, Nepal – the birthplace of Buddha

Letter to the Prime Minister

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on April 11, 2012

The Right Honorable Prime Minister of Nepal
Dr. Baburam Bhattarai
Singha Darbar
Kathmandu, Nepal

I would like to write and suggest on very important decision that Nepal government did recently to mention Lumbini as Buddha’s birth place in 100 rupees note. This decision is, undoubtedly, very important and most of Nepalese are welcoming and praising as there are lots of misinformation all over the world on Buddha’s birth place. And also it is decided to keep photos of Mayadevi, Ashoka Pillar and Lumbini in a note of NRS 100.

There is no problem for the Nepalese people to understand it, but as India is faking Lumbini and many countries have course books mentioning Buddha’s birth place not Nepal but India. Therefore, I would like to request to write “Lumbini, Nepal: The Birth Place of Lord Buddha” and only this could be useful and helpful to dismiss the misinformation in some extent.

It should be revised by the Government on this important decision as soon as possible to give a true and clear message to the world. Hopefully your government will consider this request.

Thanking you a lot again.

Respectfully yours,
