We are very grateful to H.E. Ambassador Lok Bahadur Thapa for his statement delivered at the 22nd Session of the Conference of States Parties (CSP-22) to the Chemical Weapons Convention held at the World Forum Conference in The Hague as Permanent Representative of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. In his statement he highlighted Nepal as the birthplace of Lord Buddha, apostle of Peace and nonviolence. 192 member states and delegates participated in the program.

“All of us can learn from the Buddha’s spirit of compassion. His timeless teachings can help us to navigate the many global problems we face today. The need for global solidarity may seem like a modern concept, but it is not. More than 2,500 years ago, Buddha taught that nothing exists in isolation, and that all phenomena are interdependent. Just as profoundly, he taught that we cannot be happy as long as others suffer and that when we do reach out, we discover the best in ourselves.” – said former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Ban Ki-moon’s saying “I sincerely hope that the life, philosophy and the teaching of Lord Buddha will guide us to promote peace, harmony and reconciliation among people of different religions, belief, culture and creed.” clarifies why Buddhism necessary for World Peace. Nepal, therefore, needs to interlink Buddha to all World Peace related activities as Buddha is the symbol of Peace and Nepal can do a lot together with UN in the World Peace Movement.
