The Birtplace of Gautam Buddha is Nepal, not India

“Where are you from?”, she asked.

“I am from the birthplace of Buddha”, I replied proudly.

“So, you are Indian?” she questioned.

“No, I am from Nepal, Buddha’s birthplace’, I replied.

“But I’ve heard that India is where Buddha was born” she humorously told me looking at my face.

“No, his birthplace is Lumbini, which is in Nepal” I replied surprisingly.

“Is it..?” she again questioned me.

‘Yes. But, some Indians, who envy our traditions and culture, and who don’t like us growing prosperous are making rumors”, I clarified.

Newsweek Editor Fareed Zakaria Apologised Tactfully

In response to an email by rana1616@gmail.com, the author of controversial book “THE POST-AMERICAN  WORLD” and the editor of Newsweek,  Fareed Zakaria apologized, but not whole heartily, for what he mentioned in page 154 of his book.

Q: I HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK – THE POST-AMERICAN WORLD BUT HAS THE WRITER WRITTEN BUDDHA BORN IN INDIA? HE SHOULD HAVE RESEARCHED BEORE HE HAD WRITTEN SO. HAVE YOU HEARD THE BOOK HAS BEEN BURNT DOWN IN NEPAL?
Fareed’s  response:

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to write to me. I understand that you were displeased by one section, particularly with my saying that “Buddha was Indian.” You rightly point out that the Buddha was born in Lumbini, in modern-day Nepal—not in India.

Please know that I meant no disrespect to Nepal, a country that I love. The Buddha was born and lived 2,500 years ago, in an age before modern-day boundaries were drawn and before the idea of a nation-state even existed. When I referred to the Buddha as “Indian” I meant it only in the geographic sense of the word, as a person hailing from the Indian subcontinent—not as a citizen of a particular state.
